In 2017, the work expanded significantly through a partnership with the Helmerich Family Foundation, supporting the growth of a larger neighborhood revitalization effort through mission aligned investment. This partnership allowed for the continued acquisition and restoration of underutilized properties and helped accelerate long term development in areas that had been historically overlooked.
From that point forward, GuRuStu’s work became increasingly focused within a defined set of neighborhoods, including Crutchfield, the northwest portion of Kendall Whittier, the Greenwood District, and the East Village District in downtown Tulsa. The East Village District, which Stuart helped establish, remains home to the company’s offices and continues to serve as a model for incremental, community driven development.
As the work expanded, additional organizations and businesses were formed in response to both operational needs and opportunities within the community.
These include:
- Tulsa Supply Company, a cooperative providing access to building materials for internal projects and other affordable housing efforts in Tulsa
- Little GuRus STEAM Academy, a 4 Star certified early childhood center serving families within the Crutchfield neighborhood
- Artisan Hall, Inc., a nonprofit initiative focused on transforming a historic church into a shared community space in partnership with First Christian Church of Tulsa
- Tulsa Hardwood Floors, a professional hardwood flooring installation and repair company based in Tulsa, OK
Each of these efforts reflects a broader approach to development, one that extends beyond housing to include access to services, materials, and spaces that support long term community stability.
